Trickle Up in Mali - Exciting Results

The Trickle Up Program first started working in Mali in 1986. From that time through FY2004, we have worked to build microenterprises among the poorest and most vulnerable populations. Trickle Up has been and continues to be one of the few development agencies providing economic and social support to the northern populations, who have limited access to other microfinance programs. In 2003 Trickle Up established a field office in Timbuktu. Trickle Up in Mali has achieved incredible results last year including: 5,150 microenterprises started since January 2004, the creation of 206 business development savings funds with 25 people in each group, training & support of 13 local partner agencies and diversification and promotion of craft products for six groups of Trickle Up entrepreneurs. Benefits to Entrepreneurs include: average monthly profits $220, 100% of entrepreneurs report that their families’ access to health has improved (before the program started, entrepreneurs spent $3.50 per year for their health care but after they  spent an average of $39),  parents now spend 4.5 times more money for their children’s education, women are now able to go to market, sell products, attend savings groups, and control family expenditures.  Goals for the Trickle Up Mali program are ambitious -- check in for updates on our Mali program soon!!
