About our Americas Program

The Americas region continues to play an important role in the growth of the organization since the founding of the Trickle Up Program in the Caribbean. Beginning in 1979 with the first ten businesses in Dominica, Trickle Up has provided seed capital to help launch or expand 29,592 business in the Americas alone. In FY 2004, Trickle Up continued working in Bolivia, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Nicaragua and Peru to launch or expand 2,055 businesses. Working with 31 Coordinating Partner Agencies within the region, our program continues to address those aspects of globalization that widen the gap between rich and poor.

Reports from FY 2004 Show:

  • 61 percent of the Trickle Up entrepreneurs in the Americas were women.

  • 36 percent of the entrepreneurs were under the age of 27.

  • 86 percent of the entrepreneurs considered their Trickle Up business as their primary source of income.
